A few things I'm loving lately:
1. Both books on this list tell a heartwarming story of family - created and connected (even if they had no idea at first) by blood, mistakes, secrets, shame, sadness, and - ultimately - love. With a deeply lovable (though frequent poor-choice-making) main character in this gem of a book (or audiobook, as I listened to it) you'll be rooting for this family as they make their way across the country on what you know is a fool's errand of a road trip.
2. One of my favorite writers, Kevin Wilson has crafted yet another quirky, laugh-out-loud tale of family and connection, and - in addition to the learn-to-love-them-along-the-way family members - a PT Cruiser is almost a main character itself. Until it's replaced by a Chevy HHR.
3. Our gift to you with any purchase of $150 or more this month, we made our Lucky Charms totes by hand with the help of some iron-on designs. Enough for many projects to come, I cut the various lucky shapes out by hand from a roll of golden-hued vinyl sheeting that I then affixed to the fabric with the swipe of a hot iron. T-shirts or sweatshirts might be next!
4. One of my teenagers (read: the age largely unimpressed by most things) proclaimed this was one of the top three meals I had ever made for her. (And I feel like I've made a lot of meals for her and her sister.) Easy, quick, and delicious - I'm liking and making A LOT of Pinch of Yum's recipes lately.
5. I know I've shared about gardenias before, but this one I grew myself from a small potted plant I snagged at Trader Joe's two or three years ago. (They sometimes offer them around Mother's Day, so look for them mid-late April!) I've been curious about how to keep these blooms healthy since three appeared just in the last few weeks, and I'll be doing my best with these tips to keep my thumb (and this plant) green.

A few things I'm loving lately:
1. A mysterious woman washes ashore on a remote island near Antarctica and challenges the isolated family who lives there with confronting difficult truths about themselves, one another, and the natural world they strive to protect. I read this captivating book on a very different kind of island over spring break, but was drawn in by vivid descriptions of such a desolate but beautiful place and the unfolding dramas that took place there.
2. Lightweight, fast-drying, and sand-proof, these colorful towels have become a family favorite. Bonus: the drawstring bag in which they are packaged makes for a great carrier of all the sunscreen bottles and balms in the beach or pool bag. (I snagged our towels at my dear friend's boutique - bonus bonus for shopping small!)
3. My latest Instagram black hole is a super fun in-the-streets music game show called Track Star* in which the host (Jack, who seems like the most cheerful dude) asks the interviewee to "name the artist and win 5 bucks." I learn about new music or play along to old favorites as they (I?) try to double their money each round.
4. Circling back around to sunscreen, this has been a staple since I discovered it on a trip to Paris 14 years ago - soaks in, applies smoothly, no irritation or pore-clogging of sensitive skin, and - most importantly - really works. It might be for kids, but I can attest it's a fit for middle-aged women, too.
5. I've followed Morgan Elvington Walker (@bymelving) on Instagram for a few years now, and I find myself continually inspired by her work and - maybe more accurately - her willingness to flow with her own inspirations, trying new techniques and being open to the process and evolution of her own creativity. Her latest work came about after taking a marbling class in Italy, and the resulting collection - though entirely sold out - might be my favorite of hers yet. I can't wait to see what she creates next.

A few things I'm loving lately:
1. After I saw the beautiful creations Joy Cho of Oh Joy! crafted with this marbling kit, I knew it would be a fun and colorful project for my favorite middle-schooler. (She may be too cool for many things these days, but thankfully not for making art with her mom.) I have so many ideas for our next attempt, and this first try at marbling was a hit. (And there are plenty of materials in the kit for future trials!)
2. Tig Notaro has been a favorite of mine since her Taylor Dane bit (I still cry laughing every time) and her new podcast, Handsome, with Fortune Feimster and Mae Martin brings so much laughter and joy to my Tuesdays.
3. Speaking of crying (though not crying laughing), that's what I was doing by the end of this beautiful (as the title would suggest) book. In the best way. I love a story of family dynamics, humans making their way among the broken bits of life, and eventually creating and finding their own wholeness.
4. I'm so excited to finally have some wearable Elva Fields merch, and especially in honor of our 20th birthday last month! It's my new favorite hat, and you can have one, too!
5. Delicious on its own or with bourbon, my most-loved of Modica's superfood goodness in a bottle is the Tart Cherry Old Fashioned (and I don't typically care much for cherry, but this is really great.) Cheers!
