Strength from Within

Elva Fields

There is something deeply special about beads made by hand, and it is perhaps even more wonderful when those beads are a vintage find. Both are the case with these beautiful beads made of buffalo horn from West Africa, likely from the 1970s. Their smooth finish, shades of golden brown, and subtle heft all make for an unassuming elegance that seemed to call for an equally laid-back glamour when searching for a proper accompaniment to them. We found the perfect pairing in a vintage rhinestone crescent brooch from the 1960s. Its simple shape belies its casual coolness, and we love the joining of shimmering rhinestones with the stunning finish of the horn beads. Silver beads from India add an extra element of worldliness to the design, and a silver-over-copper hook clasps at back. Necklace measures a flattering longer length of 21.5" overall.
