Many of the Elva Gals in the studio have a common favorite hobby: Flea marketing, of course! Around Kentucky, it's lucky for us that we can almost always find a fun weekend market to attend. We've learned a lot about how to make the experience the best one possible, so we thought we'd share a little insight concerning what we feel are truly flea marketing essentials! First of all, with so many of the best markets being when weather is warm, be sure to keep the rays off your face with a cute hat and definitely wear plenty of sunscreen. You'll also be doing quite a lot of trekking, so wear comfy shoes (I mean, who doesn't start out with a full round of the market? You have to if you want to snag the best stuff!) When it comes to comfort and simple style, TOMS are our go-to!  A large tote bag for storing goodies is an easy (and much more fashionable/eco-friendly) alternative to carrying around any shopping bags. Remember to bring some healthy snacks and a full water bottle, otherwise you'll be forced to eat the market's carney food (though, I would not be mad if I had a funnel cake right about now...) We know half the fun of flea markets is browsing, but this is also quite dangerous. If you're looking for something very specific (a vintage rhinestone brooch, perhaps?) keep a notepad with a list of what you have to find. Otherwise, you'll end the day with a mink fur coat, antique bird cage, and an authentic African bongo drum (and yes, I speak from experience). Last but not least, don a pair of cool shades. Naturally, you want to keep the sun out of your eyes, but more importantly, it'll help you maintain a solid poker face- after all, you'll have some serious bargaining to do! Alright, now get goin' ladies!

    The Jewels: "Without A Care"

Mara Hoffman Safari Dress | Dior Nude Palette | Frye Norah Woven Satchel |  Jean Michel Cazabat Wedge

Bold prints, yes please! Loving this "safari" style dress from Mara Hoffman... Though, this look is really only complete when these amazingly exotic jewels are added! Grab a few casual accessories with the same feel (outdoors, ethnic, thatched, you get the idea here!) and keep the make-up light and airy. Voila! Ready to roll.

The Jewels: "Details of Beauty Refined"

    J. Crew Regatta Tank | J. Brand White Skinnies | ModCloth Bag | RMK Orange Lip | Kenneth Cole Reaction Flats

A printed tee like this one from J.Crew is an absolute summer necessity- it's forever versatile and coincidentally matches so many gorgeously-hued Elva jewels! (I particularly like it with this electrifying yellow stunner!)

    The Jewels: "Flanked by Floral"

MSGM White Shift | Guerlain Bronzer Compact | Shu Uemura Lipstick | Cut-out Clutch | Michael Kors Wedge

An all-time favorite summer combination? Turquoise and white! This airy cotton shift is a sweet statement while these gorgeous jewels add color and a hint of vintage charm, keeping in line with the old school simplicity of a summer sundress. The extra appeal? The contrast of a white ensemble usually makes you look like you have a bit of summer glow! And a nice sweep or two of a bronzer (such as this one from Guerlain) certainly helps as well.

  • Summer 2013 Look Book

Our Summer 2013 Collection embodies the simple summer pleasure of a picnic--combining a bit of luxury with the ease of the outdoors and the vibrant colors that come from the happy experience of enjoying life on a beautiful summer day.  The Elva Gals gathered jewels and good food, heading to nearby Taylorsville Lake for a greenest-grass perch with a waterfront view.

Each Elva Gal contributed part of the meal (avocado chicken salad, fruit skewers, and homemade raspberry lemonade headlined the list)  while some local goodies mixed in to the menu, including cookies from local eatery The Tea Cup and Louisville-bottled Rooibee Red Tea.  (We even incorporated some dining nostalgia with plates from one Elva Gal's childhood!)  It was an afternoon of swapped stories, enjoying the breeze, and soaking up some sunshine on a colorful quilt...and we're already planning our next picnic.

Enjoy the Collection...and stay tuned for our next adventure in July!
