The Winding Path of Growth

Elva Fields

Growth rarely follows a straightforward route, instead ambling (sometimes racing) down winding paths that occasionally feel long and uncertain. But we keep going, and this necklace honors that resilient spirit with a buckle made of gilt brass featuring twisted vines, leafy tendrils, fronds, and foliage. The buckle likely dates to the early 1900s though would have originally fastened a belt on a garment, it now becomes the clasp for seven strands of mother-of-pearl heishi beads. The staggered stripe-like combination of ivory and rich brown pearly shell beads become a beautiful neutral that can go anywhere and accompany most any ensemble whether the golden buckle is arranged at the side of the strands or at the back of the neck. Measuring approximately 18" length at its shortest strand, this necklace has certainly grown into its sophisticated and stylish beauty.
