These striking glass beads were handmade in Indonesia but certainly recall a bit of France in their design with a very Matisse-like pattern in cobalt blue on mauve ground. (The leaf-like shapes are so much like his alluring abstract paper cutouts from the 1940s and 50s.) With a tiny faceted cobalt blue crystal bead between each glass gem, the three strands are a most wonderful setting for a pressed glass pendant of the same beautiful blue that dates to the 1920s from Czechoslovakia. A floral design flows within a rectangle border, and the geometric contrast with the lobed pattern of the beads provides such playful fun. A sterling silver-over-brass toggle clasps the necklace at back that measures 18” at its shortest strand. (Blue glass pendant measures 1.75" in overall length.)
