Birthday Beads Necklace
Elva Fields
In celebration of our 22nd birthday, we decided a signature style was in order. Enter the Birthday Beads: unused glass beads from the 1940s and 50s that were made in Japan and shipped to the United States for use in costume jewelry produced by world-renowned companies along the East Coast before jewelry manufacturing moved entirely overseas. When those American companies shuttered, the materials in their warehouses went forgotten and unused until acquired by some of our favorite vintage vendors, which is how we discovered them over 20 years ago.
These "dead stock" vintage beads have been a staple of Elva Fields designs since our early days, and we loved the idea of creating a simple strand of them for you to enjoy. With the addition of a vintage brass hook (by another famous costume jewelry firm, Napier) and gold-over-brass chain, the single-strand necklace - here in ivory beads of just over 0.65" diameter - becomes adjustable from 17 to 18" length overall. It's our hope that these Birthday Beads remind you to celebrate every day with effortless style that is sure to be a timeless classic.
