Hold Your Heart in Mine

elva

What a metaphor in this vintage compact! American-made in the 50s, this cream-colored enamel heart lid features a sweet smaller golden heart offset within its center, and it opens to reveal a heart-shaped screen that once contained the pressed powder originally stored in the compact. Cosmetics packaging used to be so beautifully glamorous, and it is such fun to find a way to enjoy these "gems" in a new way! Suspended by hand-wrought brass beads from Mali (which are more and more rare these days) and matte-finished jasper beads, the look is straightforwardly elegant without pretense (our favorite combination!) Not feeling the creamy ivory hue with certain ensembles? Simply flip the necklace around and wear the compact on its reverse, a machine-engraved brass that reads golden and gorgeous instead. A gilt copper toggle fastens the design at back, measuring 17.5" length. Compact measures 3" length.
