A reminder of the beautiful way light filters through tree leaves, each of these beads is like a tiny work of art. Made entirely by hand through the laborious process of lost wax casting by talented craftspeople in Ghana, each bead begins as a 3-D model painstakingly constructed in wax that is then encased in plaster or clay. Molten metal - in this case brass - is poured into the clay surround, melting the wax and taking the place of the bead's shape within the clay. Once the brass cools, the clay is removed, revealing a beautiful brass bead that perfectly replicates the original wax form in muted gold and soft bronze hues typical of brass metal.
At once clean-lined and refreshingly modern in its stylized linear leaf design AND symbolic of the incredible cultural traditions of artistic craftsmanship of the Ashanti people in Ghana that dates back centuries, these beads speak to hand-crafted heritage, timeless style, rich history, and the boundless beauty of nature as inspiration.
The necklace is just as at ease with a dress as it is your favorite sweater and jeans - an ideal transitional style that flows effortlessly from bright summer days to crisp autumn evenings ahead. Needing very little enhancement, we simply added a gold-over-brass hook clasp at back to complete the 18” strand.
*Note: Due to the unique nature of these beads, only a very limited number of these necklaces are available, each made to order especially for the recipient.
