A rare example of jewelry by New York costume jeweler Herman Pomerantz, (signed POMERANTZ NY on the back) the corsage-like brooch at the side of this necklace likely dates to the 1940s. (Since the Pomerantz Company was only known to be active for the better part of 20 years or so, there is little information about them and not a lot of surviving examples of their work.) With layers of gold and rosy copper over brass, the stunningly-detailed petals of the camellia are lifelike and lovely, curling gently over one another and layered like the sumptuous and beautiful bloom for which it is celebrated and loved. Strands of polished Russian amazonite, in its signature serene aqua green hue, are an elegant accompaniment to the blossom, lending an easy glamour to the look. Measures 17" length (camellia brooch measures 3") and clasps with a gilt copper toggle at back.
