Discovered in two very different places (states, even!) on the same weekend last month, the blooms and the beads were simply meant to be together. Beads of handmade glass from Indonesia bring the brightness, their playfully-patterned pink ground showing blue-leafed blooms of red and yellow. The three strands are a triumph of exuberance on their own, but the gorgeous garden of flowers at their side try to (lovingly) steal the show. These brilliantly-hued blooms were crafted entirely by hand in glass and wire by skilled craftspeople, likely in the 1940s or 50s in former Czechoslovakia. The flowers belonged to a beaded necklace, like a daisy chain of dangling blooms wired on to hand-looped links in a long single strand. With corroded wire and worn, missing links, the blooms have been repaired and restored and now gather together in an explosion of happy hues (red, pink, blue, turquoise, green, yellow, white, and periwinkle!)
